Doha: Amal Al Rafie kept her cool in crucial moments to win the women’s skeet competition of the Qatar Cup for Shooting and Archery.
Yesterday, at the Losail Shooting range Amal defeated Sarah Gulam in the gold medal match. Hanan Abdullah had to settle for the bronze.
In the junior Skeet event, Reem Al Sharshani topped while Hajar Gulam had to settle for the silver. Ameena Al Mansuri took the bronze.
In the other events yesterday, Khulood Hasan Al Khalaf bagged the gold medal in the women’s Trap event overcoming stiff challenge from Noora Eisa Al Ali.
Maitha Hamad Al Binali settled for the bronze. In the junior category of Trap, Badriya Hamad clinched the first place followed by Rowdha Naji Al Qahtani. Al Hydus clinched the third place.
The shooting events of the Qatar Cup ended yesterday.
The final two days of the championship, organised by Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, are reserved for archery.
Archers will compete in the Recurve 70m x 2 and Compound 50m today and tomorrow.
The Qatar Cup will serve as an ideal preparation for the local shooters ahead of the Qatar Open 2015, which will be held from February 11 to 20 at the same venue. Some of the top shooters will be seen in action at the Qatar Open. The event will be held in the Skeet, Double Trap and Trap.
