DOHA: The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara celebrated National Sports Day (NSD) hosting 80 events.
The events organised under the slogan “Be the champion” comprised activities of all kinds for all ages for more than 12 hours.
One of the biggest attractions of the day was the Kid’s Sport Village, which saw massive crowd of children enjoying its facilities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Khaled bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Katara’s General Manager, said: “Katara has created such a nuanced approach to National Sports Day in a bid to establish sport as a lifestyle and culture across the State of Qatar. These endeavors and efforts are each in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 which increasingly seeks to make sports an important and integral part of the lives of Qataris and residents alike.”
Minister of Industry and Energy, H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada and Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi also visited Katara during National Sport Day festivities. The president of Qatar University Dr Hassan Al Derham and president of the Qatar Basketball Federation, Sheikh Saud Abdulrahman Al Thani also attended the activities.
Katara marked the day with an assortment of activities that included both marine and aerial sports which made use of Katara Beach under the pleasant temperatures of early February. Basketball, football and beach handball were organized on the esplanade and the beach. The games were accompanied by health tips and medical checks to attendees offered by health and wellness institutes.
There were also chess, biking, yoga, horse riding, film screenings and more.
Among the organisers who have participated at Katara’s National Sports Day celebration were Qatar Basketball Federation, Qatar Volleyball Association, Qatar Karate Federation, Qatar Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation, Qatar Chess Association, Qatar Equestrian Federation, Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Qatar General Electricity, Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Qatar University, Qatar Lawyers Association and Healthy Katara Food Market.
