Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) continues to work on its campaign ‘Syria: an Endless Winter’ inaugurated near the Syria-Turkey border.
A QC delegation distributed 2,000 food baskets to the Syrian refugees in Reyhanli, benefiting about 10,000 people.
The food basket included basic supplies sufficient for a family of five for a month. The baskets were distributed to affected families living under difficult circumstances and do not have anything to eat.
The campaign also distributed food to Al Amal Hospital, funded by QC, and other nursing homes.
The distribution team consisted of Dr. Ayesh Al Qahtani, a preacher; Jassim Al Sulaiti, Relief Management Coordinator, QC; Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al Sulaiti and Youssef Al Kuwari, volunteers from the charity.
QC inaugurated the campaign at a press conference near the Syria-Turkey borders in the presence of Faisal Rashid Al Fahida, Director of Operations, QC.
The campaign was meant to provide the displaced Syrians in Syria and refugees in south Turkey with supplies necessary to make them feel warm.
The first batch of aid included items totalling about 250,000 pieces, benefiting 102,000 families comprising 508,000 people.
Several trucks drove inside Syria after the press conference was over so as to distribute the aid in the countryside of Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Lattakia and other governorates.
The first consignment included 50,000 blankets; 50,000 pieces of wood for fireplaces and cooking; 50,000 winter bags (including jackets, gloves, socks and covers for children); 30,000 jackets; 50,000 school bags; 1,000 tents for shelter; 13,100 milk bottles; and food supplies sufficient for a month.
Dr. Al Qahtani thanked the philanthropists and good-doers who donated for the campaign.
“May Allah reward all of those who give charity. Since it is winter, the weather will get colder and the Syrians’ sufferings will worsen. We need to hurry and relieve them. We need to provide them with necessary supplies to make them feel warm. We are their brothers and sisters and as Muslims, mercy is required,” he said.
The Syrian families praised QC’s work and thanked the philanthropists.
Mahmoud Qwaider, Chief, Al Amal Hospital, said the food baskets will cover meals for in-patients and help operate the hospital.
Dr. Mansur Al Atrash, Chief, Dar Al Hikma, one of the nursing homes, thanked QC for the campaign.
