Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will implement a temporary diversion on part of Lijmiliya Road, running about 2km in both directions.
The closure start on Monday and lasts six months.
Traffic will be diverted to a new temporary road with one lane in each direction adjacent to the closed road, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic.
The diversion is required to allow for the upgrade of the existing road and construction of a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction.
The new road as part of Lijmiliya, Leatooriya and Al Sheehaniya Expressway project will provide permanent features, including a median island as well as pedestrian and cyclist pathways.
The Expressway Programme aims to enhance traffic capacity and road safety in the area, and includes works to develop infrastructure, install Intelligent Transport Systems and a comprehensive drainage system.
Ashghal will install signs advising motorists of the diversion and has urged road users to abide by speed limits and follow road signs for safety. The Peninsula
