Doha: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to visit Qatar to finalise a multibillion-dollar liquefied natural gas (LNG) deal, according to Pakistan's petroleum minister.
The 15-year deal was struck last year and will be for 1.5 million tonnes a year of LNG.
Minister of State for Petroleum Jam Kamal Khan told Reuters in an interview that the final agreement will take place soon. “I think the final agreement will be either this month or in February.”
Khan said that he expected the deal to be finalised during a visit to Qatar by Pakistan’s Prime Minister but he did not reveal a date for the official visit.
Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani visited Pakistan last year in March. Pakistan and Qatar signed a number of agreements during the two-day visit of the Emir. This included first executive programme for co-operation in the fields of education, higher education and scientific research, and a cultural, scientific, technical, educational and information agreement between the governments of Qatar and Pakistan.
