DOHA: The State Cabinet yesterday approved the distance education system, allowing the Supreme Education Council (SEC) to develop a framework for authorising distance and online degrees from various universities and institutions across the world.
With the cabinet nod, SEC will develop the necessary conditions and procedures for equivalency of certificates and degrees issued by distance education institutions abroad. Distance education system is a way to provide education and instruction to students who do not have to physically attend the lessons in a conventional classroom, said a briefing on the Cabinet meeting. H E Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi recently said that authorities were in favour of providing ample opportunities to people in the country for distance and online education.
