Doha: United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid bin Ra’ad, accompanied by National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Chairman Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, yesterday visited the Labour City in Mesaimeer near the Industrial Area, which is the biggest workers’ accommodation in Qatar and the Gulf.
Prince Zeid and his delegation toured the city and learnt about its facilities and health, security, sports, artistic, cultural and entertainment services for workers. He also met several resident workers.
The city has a capacity of 100,000 people and is built over an area of one million square kilometres.
It comprises 55 buildings that comply with the highest standards in safety and security and provides all basic and entertainment services.
It includes a hospital, a mosque, a commercial complex, a cinema, a cricket playground, a cultural theatre and a security centre.
