DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has urged citizens and residents of Qatar to redouble their donations to support Syrians in the besieged Syrian city of Madaya.
Ready-to-eat meals can be donated to the residents of Madaya via SMS. People can send the word “Madaya,” to 92642 to donate QR100, to 92428 to donate QR500, to 92429 to donate QR1,000, or can contact QC hotline 44667711.
QC has distributed food rations to the starving residents of Madaya in cooperation with Al Rahma International Charity.
It has opened the doors for donations and contributions to Madaya, as part of a campaign ‘Syria, Harsh Winter’.
Aid included prepared food, wheat, lentils, chickpeas, beans, semolina, sugar, corn and rice, in addition to meals and fresh meat.
Reports of international humanitarian organisations indicate that the majority of the deceased were elderly and infants due to the acute shortage of foodstuff, particularly milk.
Thousands of Madaya residents and those of the western countryside of Damascus, including Zabadani and Baqin, are facing death due to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions and the severe cold winter.
QC launched the campaign beginning from Rihaniyya area along the Turkish border to provide kits for the displaced in Syria, and refugees in southern Turkey to enable them to keep warm during the winter months.
The first consignment of the campaign included more than 250,000 kits distributed to 508,000 people.
A QC delegation distributed 2,000 food baskets to 10,000 Syrian refugees in Rihaniyya city near the Syrian border.
QC is playing a central role to alleviate the suffering of refugees and displaced people in Lebanon.
About 10,000 Syrian refugees in the Lebanese city of Arsal have benefited from the relief project carried out by QC.
The charity has distributed 1,825 basic items to 15 Syrian refugees’ camps in Lebanon as part of the ‘Life’s Backbone’ project at a cost of QR1,825,000.
