DOHA: Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) yesterday announced a partnership with the Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior to introduce a new mobile solution that allows users to report accidents in real-time. This new feature for road safety, an integral part of QMIC’s existing iTraffic mobile solution, was announced at the 24th World ITMA Congress that concludes today.
It allows users to report accidents in real-time and send their exact location to authorities. This would help reduce response time and unnecessary miscommunication in the midst of an accident.
The iTraffic solution is a locally-developed smart app using real-time traffic data and offering users location-based services, making their journeys safer and smoother.
iTraffic was launched in 2012, and since then has grown with over 130,000 downloads. It’s available in English and Arabic on iTunes and Google Play Store. The Traffic Department and QMIC have been working together in strategic studies, accident prevention and public safety awareness.
Brig Muhammad Saad Al Kharji, Director General, Traffic Department, said, “We are eager to leverage iTraffic solution and see how it will create a positive impact on managing incidents on roads. We are always seeking smart solutions from national entities in support of Qatar’s Road Safety Strategy”.
Dr Adnan Abu Dayya, Executive Director and CEO, QMIC, said, “Our vision towards creating an ecosystem of smart road safety solutions and services is in line with Qatar’s vision for road safety.
“We have seen enthusiasm from national and government entities eager to be key players in this positive movement, and we are proud to be the leading regional innovations centre in this area”.
