Doha: With Qatari citizens and expatriates embracing the real patriotic fervour on the eve of Qatar National Day, the market is flooded with fresh stocks of stickers, posters and national flags in varying designs and colours to decorate vehicles.
Citizens and expatriates expressed different opinions about the supply and prices of such stickers urging the authorities concerned to keep an eye on car accessory shops to control any price hike.
“Motorists have the craze to get their cars decorated with stickers of Qatar flag showing their love for the country,” Qasim Ahmad, a motorist told The Peninsula. He said that usually motorists prefer ready-made stickers but some people, who are very choosy, order special design for decorations.
“Prices for decorating cars differ from one car accessory shop to the other depending on the quality of materials. However, on an average it ranges from QR1,200 to QR1,300 for a big car,” said Ahmad. He added that the decoration of small car costs from QR850 to QR1,000 and the prices of a very sophisticated special decoration could reach upto QR10,000.
Saleh Saud advised the motorists to visit few shops before taking final decision for an appropriate price. “We as consumers have also the responsibility to discourage greedy traders,” said Saud adding that it is not a big deal to visit few shops to find the best price. He urged the authorities concerned to monitor the market to ensure that the shops are complying with the rules of consumer protection.
Some shops offer this decoration works on cars for free or at nominal prices showing their love to the country.
Mohamad Abdullah shared a similar experience. “In previous years, some shops were decorating cars free of cost at Qatar Sport Club which attracted large number of motorists,” said Abdullah. A motorist, Ahmad Al Nima, demanded the authority concerned to extend the time frame allowed to keep the cars decorated during QND celebration.
“The duration of decoration should be extended because some citizens and expatriates spend big amount of money especially in case of special designed stickers,” said Al Nima adding that due to short period some motorists avoid to do so.
“Motorists show their love and loyalty to Qatar on the occasion of QND in different ways like placing national flag, stickers containing message of love to Qatar and many more,” said Mohamad Khalifa, a motorist. Hamad Al Mannai said that he noted diversity in expressing love to Qatar by motorists who do their best to decorate cars.
“The motorists decorate their cars with Qatar flag and posters regarding QND celebration. There is real competition in car decoration among the motorists,” said Al Mannai. He said that some people spend big money on decorating their cars to attract attention of the people.
