DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has relaxed licensing rules for certain sections of healthcare professionals graduated abroad if they are children or spouses of Qataris or expatriates.

The new licensing rules, approved by the Permanent Licensing Committee at SCH, also applies to graduates of Qatar University.
Nurses, pharmacists and allied health care practitioners are covered by the new rule.
They have been exempted from the requirement related to work experience while seeking a licence to practice in Qatar, according to a circular issued by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP), the body responsible for licensing healthcare professionals.
Allied healthcare practitioners are those providing a range of diagnostic, technical, therapeutic and direct patient care and support services that are critical to the other health professionals.
Candidates from the three categories planning to join the Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Healthcare Corporation and Sidra Medical and Research Center will not require the minimum work experience, provided they complete an internship in keeping with SCH requirements.
Candidates planning to join other healthcare institutions in government, semi-government or private sectors are required to complete a one-year training period under supervision of a licensed healthcare practitioner.
For such candidates, a letter will be issued by QCHP before they start training.
