Doha: Ambassador of Portugal to Qatar H E Paulo Neves Pocinho said that the celebration of Qatar National Day (QND) this year during its hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is an opportunity for Qatar to broaden the impact of its national celebrations under the presence of a huge number of international fans and global media.

In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar’s celebration of the National Day this year coinciding with its hosting of the World Championship, the ambassador said that organising the national day celebrations during the hosting of the FIFA World Cup, one of the most popular sporting events in the world, is an opportunity for Qatar to expand the impact of its national celebrations.

“The celebration of the National Day is a very important moment for any country. Qatar may rightfully celebrate its achievements this year at the National Day Celebrations with pride and fulfilment. Indeed, amongst other achievements, it is the first country in the Middle East region hosting a FIFA World Cup,” he added.

In response to a question about adopting “Our Unity Source of Our Strength” as a slogan for the 2022 National Day celebrations, he said that the strength of any nation lies in the unity of purpose of its people and in the way it upholds its collective vision. 

At the global level, we must acknowledge that His Highness’ slogan for the 2022 Qatar National Day celebrations couldn’t be more appropriate, especially when the world gets together and united in Qatar to host the FIFA World Cup. 

The Ambassador said Portugal and Qatar enjoy a longstanding friendship with shared interests and have jointly promoted the advancement of bilateral relations and witnessed their steady progress. The two countries have a long history of mutual support in international organizations, mainly in the realm of the United Nations and are increasingly engaged in developing its political, economic, social and cultural links.
