DOHA: Qatar youth team are leaving a strong impression following their on-going participation at the Men’s Youth Handball Championship that is being hosted by Hungary.

Budaors and Erd are playing hosts to the 24 men’s youth teams from around the world, and Qatar have impressed despite being drawn in a tough preliminary round group. Qatar produced high quality performances in their victories over Korea, Slovenia and Tunisia.

Their impressive form helped them secure second spot in Group B and advance to the last-16 stage.

Having put on good display in their last-16 loss against Serbia, the Qatar team impressed many in the tournament.

Germany’s coach Christian Schwarzer, former European and World Champion and EHF Champions League winner, said of Qatar: “Their (Qatar) results have been remarkably well. I remember their performances at the 2011 Men’s Youth Handball World Championship in Argentina, and they are steadily increasing in strength.”

He added: “It is clear that Handball in Qatar is undertaking a great and positive development.”

Qatar Handball Association Secretary General and Director of Sport Operations of the Men’s Handball World Championship 2015 in Qatar, Mohamed Jaber Al Mulla, praised the high technical level of the championship so far.

He said: “Our team had been preparing hard for over three months for this tournament and I am very satisfied as we have shown very strong performance with good results, including important victories.”

Al Mulla added: “I am sure that we will see some of these young prospect players being a part of the Qatari men’s national team at our home World Championship 2015. Our national team coach Valero Rivera has been following the games, and many players of both the Youth and the Junior team have made a great impression on him.”

Qatar will host the Men’s World Championship in 2015 between January 11 and 27.
