Doha, Qatar: The Qatari capital will take part in the Earth Hour 2025 campaign today, March 22 at 8:30pm local time, turning off lights for one hour to raise awareness of environmental issues.
Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has urged residents and citizens to observe the lights-out event from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. "EarthHour is an international event shared by millions of people around the world to turn off lights and electrical devices for one hour, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of conserving electricity and reducing harmful carbon emissions," said the authority on its social media.
In Qatar, iconic buildings along the Corniche and other parts of the country participate annually by turning off their lights in support of Earth Hour.
Millions worldwide join this global environmental movement as Earth Hour marks its 19th edition. Supporters are encouraged to take part in the "lights off" moment and use those 60 minutes to do something positive for the planet. In 2024, over 1.5 million hours were dedicated to the cause, and this year, the movement aims to surpass that number, targeting 2 millions hours.
Let's all take part and contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future.
