Qatar Exchange index dips 2.46pc

DOHA: Qatar Exchange (QE) index shed 233.61 points or 2.46 percent last week to close at 9,246.19 points. Market capitalisation fell by 2.09 percent to reach QR509bn compared to previous week’s QR519.9bn.

The week saw all the sector indices crashing with transportation and real estate sectors the most. The transportation sector plunged 4.05 percent and the real estate sector dipped 3.93 percent.

Trading value last week decreased by 47.03 percent to reach QR1.8bn as against QR3.4bn at the end of previous week. Trading volume decreased by 45.35 percent to reach 48.6 million shares as compared to 89 million the previous week. The number of transactions fell by 30.27 percent to reach 21,802 last week as against previous week’s 31,267 transactions.

The banking and financial services sector led trading value last week, accounting for 33.53 percent of the total followed by the real estate sector which accounted for 26.09 percent. The industrial sector ranked third, accounting for 22.87 percent followed by the consumer goods and services sector.

The real estate sector led trading volume last week with a 41.6 percent of the total, followed by the banking and financial services sector which accounted for 28.84 percent. The industrial sector accounted for 10.70 percent.

The banking and financial services sector led trading number of transactions last week, accounting for 32.01 percent of the total, followed by the industrial sector, which accounted for 23.17 percent. The real estate sector and  the transportation sector accounted for 22.81 percent and 7.87 percent respectively. Of the 42 companies listed, 35 fell last week, four gained and three remained unchanged.

Yesterday, the bourse was down 93.82 points or 1 percent to 9,246.19 points from the previous closing of 9,340.01. Among the top losers were Commercial Bank of Qatar whose share dropped 1.56 percent to QR69.60, Ooredoo lost 2.80 percent to QR121.60, Vodafone Qatar fell 2.80 percent to QR90.1 and Gulf International was down 1.96 percent to QR42.50. 

The banking and financial sector lost 0.61 points yesterday, while the insurance sector was up 0.15 points. The industrial sector dropped 0.25 points and the services sector fell 1.09 points.

The Peninsula
