Doha: Aspetar, the world’s leading orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital and member of Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), has been awarded ‘Platinum Level’ accolade by Accreditation Canada International (ACI).
The award recognises Aspetar’s high safety criteria and world-class medical care and services in accordance with best practice international standards.
The accreditation process included comprehensive evaluation procedures, acknowledging excellence at the medical, administrative, financial and IT services and infrastructure levels.
The announcement was made at a media roundtable with senior management from AZF and Aspetar.
The accreditation journey began in April 2014 and took 18 months and involved four visits by an ACI team which assessed the hospital’s services against 1,800 criteria.
The accreditation was awarded last December and was achieved on the first survey.
Mohammad Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Acting CEO, AZF, expressed his pride at Aspetar’s achievement after only eight years of operation and said: “Achieving the accreditation caters directly to AZF’s vision to become the reference in sports excellence in the world, and supports its values by assuring Aspetar’s services.
“Such an achievement is in line with our efforts to contribute to Qatar National Vision 2030, which prioritises human development as one of its main pillars and focuses on the high-quality health and fitness sectors.”
Dr. Mohamed Ghaith Al Kuwari, Acting Director-General, Aspetar, said: “Obtaining this accreditation reflects the advanced and developed level of Aspetar, whether in terms of medical staff and expertise or medical services and care, which make the hospital the preferred destination for the world’s elite athletes and clubs. We are constantly working on developing the hospital’s services to maintain our leading position in sports medicine and research.” The ACI accreditation system includes three levels of status — Gold, Platinum and Diamond. To date, 97 international healthcare organisations have been accredited by ACI — 16 with ‘Platinum’ and the majority with ‘Gold;.
Aspetar is the first hospital of its kind in the region and is accredited as a ‘FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence’ by F-MARC, in addition to being an ‘IOC Research Centre for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health’.
