Doha: Pakistan Education Centre’s (PEC) girls teams proved excellence again with success in Qatar Schools Debating League 1 Championship 2015-16 at Ayesha Bint Abu Baker Independent Secondary School for Girls.
League 1 was first of the stages. A total of 147 speakers from 48 teams of 26 schools took part, vying for a spot in the top 16 and enter Qatar National Championship.
There were three teams from PEC. The first comprised Zuha Sattar, Mahnoor Shahid and Ambreen Riaz, second Mahnoor Akbar, Arooj Haroon, and Rameesha Khan and third included Saber Meena, Nawal and Mariyam.
The tournament had four rounds on motions — ‘This House Believes’ that anyone granted refugee status should be granted the same socio-economic rights as citizens; ‘This House Would’ allow individuals to opt into a one-way mission to Mars with Mars One Project Impromptu; ‘This House Would’ require all graduating high school students to complete a period of community service; and ‘This House Would’ require all elected government officials to only make use of public services.
PEC teams 1 and 2 won all rounds and achieved 1st and 2nd positions. PEC team 3 won two rounds. Zuha bagged first position, Mahnoor second, Ambreen third and Rameesha 11th individual speaker position.
The Peninsula
