Doha: Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) will host a comprehensive architecture conference aimed at celebrating and discussing its flagship development, Education City under the theme 'Learning from Education City.'
The two-day event will start on Friday and will be held at Hamad bin Khalifa University's (HBKU) Student Center. It will bring together internationally renowned thinkers and architects to examine Education City's architecture and showcase its significant projects. It will also serve as a platform to discuss what can be learnt from the development, which was designed to support QF's mission of unlocking human potential and fostering an environment conducive to learning and inspiring innovation.
With sessions such as 'The Architecture of Education,' led by American University of Sharjah professor Kevin Mitchell, and '60cm Above the Ground,' led by architect and researcher Zahra Ali Baba, the conference will discuss the architecture of learning and how it plays a role in Qatar's transition from a carbon-based economy to a knowledge-based economy.
Additionally, Ali Mangera, an architect who worked on the new Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) building, a college of HBKU based at Education City, will present a session entitled 'Creating Identity for Learning Spaces.' This will be followed by a session called 'Current Preoccupations' and a discussion on 'The Architecture of Education City,' hosted by George Katodrytis, a regionally recognized architectural educator.
"Education City has been a tangible demonstration of Qatar Foundation's commitment to education and quality design. We are delighted to be hosting 'Learning from Education City' as it will serve as a platform for dialogue and debate, and as an opportunity to explore what exactly architecture of learning is," said Engineer Jassim Telefat, group executive director of Qatar Foundation Capital Projects and Facilities Management.
"The conference will welcome renowned thinkers on the subject as we explore Education City's successes over the past 20 years. We set out to create a unique campus that offers endless opportunities for the advancement of knowledge and research, and we believe there is a lot to be learnt from this huge endeavor," he added.
The event invites architects, students, academics, critics, QF employees, media, and interested members of the community to attend and become part of the discussion.
