Al Zwair wins Msheireb Cup in thriller as Boudot seals hat-trick

DOHA: Jockey Pierre Charles Boudot completed an impressive hat-trick yesterday, guiding Al Shaqab Racing’s Al Zwair to a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the prestigious Msheireb Cup at Al Uqda Racecourse.

Boudot, who delivered a flawless performance at the 39th Al Rayyan Race Meeting, showcased his remarkable skill and precision aboard the five-year-old, Jean de Mieulle-trained Al Zwair.

The duo surged past the leading contenders, securing a one-and-a-quarter-length victory over Al Khbaib in the 1400m Purebred Arabian Handicap 85-105 feature.

In addition to his success in the Msheireb Cup, Boudot sealed victory in the penultimate race – the Thoroughbred Fillies and Mares Plate – riding Kerindia to a dominant four-length triumph.

The jockey had opened his day with a resounding win aboard Khattab La Gloire, who cruised to a seven-and-a-half-length victory in the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate (Class 6).

Earlier in the day, trainer Alban Elie De Mieulle celebrated a quick-fire double. Just Bring It stormed to a thrilling victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap 80-100, with Tomas Lukasek in the saddle, while Kovanof delivered the trainer’s first title of the day by winning the Thoroughbred Handicap 65-90 under Youssef Lachhab.

Jockey Fayos Martin Borja, who kicked off the meeting with a thrilling neck victory aboard Grace Secret in the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate, also collected two trophies. After his win with Grace Secret, Borja clinched the Thoroughbred Novice Plate with Curzon.

Meanwhile, Marco Casamento steered Shagran Alseej to a convincing victory in the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, while Estoori triumphed in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap 45-65 (Class 4), with Shakir Al Balushi in the saddle.

On Wednesday night, Ezzat Nafs demonstrated exceptional determination and class as she claimed the Al Mafiar Cup at Al Rayyan Racecourse.


Ezzat Nafs secured the Al Mafiar Cup under Jockey Fayos Martin Borja.

The eight-year-old mare, owned by Sabhea Awad Ibrahim and trained by Khaled Mohamad Alahmad, executed a flawless pillar-to-post performance, narrowly holding off a late surge from Naseeb Zakhir to secure a hard-fought neck victory.

Jockey Borja expertly guided her to this well-deserved triumph.
