DOHA: The State of Qatar participated in the Petersburg Climate Dialogue, which is currently being held in Berlin.
A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) led by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change H E Eng. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud participated in the event.
This participation reflects MECC’s commitment to supporting international efforts to address the challenges of climate change and promote sustainable development.
The dialogue aims to enhance international cooperation to implement the Paris Climate Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and to prepare for the COP30 meeting of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, scheduled to be held in Brazil.
This year’s dialogue focuses on accelerating action towards achieving the Paris goals, as well as financing, ambitious nationally determined contributions, the global stocktake, adaptation, and climate governance.
The Qatari delegation is participating in the dialogue sessions to highlight the importance of climate justice and the agreement’s commitment to the Paris Agreement, while emphasising the need for a just transition and ensuring support for developing countries in adopting environmentally friendly technologies.
Speaking at the session, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change H E Eng Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud stressed the importance of the SBSTA sessions at the Bonn Climate Conference, paving the way for organising global stocktake dialogues and action programmes related to mitigation and just transition in a manner that ensures respect for the specific national nature of mitigation measures.
In the context of the discussion on accelerating climate action and enhancing international cooperation, the Qatari delegation emphasised that international cooperation is a fundamental pillar for achieving real progress in climate action, based on Article 3, paragraph 5, of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which calls for promoting a supportive and open international economic system to achieve sustainable development, especially in developing countries.
The Petersburg Climate Dialogue is an important platform for high-level political discussions on climate cooperation and a step towards preparing for the upcoming COP30.
