Beijing: The Chinese authorities has officially announced on Monday that a total of 21 people have been killed as a result of the earthquake that hit the southwest of the country.
An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted Monday, Sichuan Province, southwest China.
The Chinese public television reported that the authorities of Ya'an City reported 14 deaths, in addition to the 7 deaths previously announced by the neighboring authorities of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.
The China Earthquake Networks Center reported that the earthquake occurred in Luoding province, at a depth of 16 km.
In 2008, more than 80,000 people died in Sichuan when an earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale struck the region
