Doha: Sultan Salem Al Naemi and Hussain Saeed Haidan yesterday clinched individual honours while ExxonMobil won the team event on the opening day of the seventh round of the Longines Hathab Qatar Equestrian Tour.
At the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s Indoor Arena, Al Naemi prevailed in the Small Tour round after completing a flawless routine astride Al Shaqab-owned 10-year-old mare Higgs to rise to the top of the points table.
The duo completed the round in 50.88 secs to top the podium yesterday.
Following his win, Al Naemi expressed his delight, stating that his victory was achieved thanks to the good preparation - helped by facilities provided by Al Shaqab.
Quick Step, with Ghanim Nasser AL Qadi in the saddle, came second in 51.14 secs while Mohammed Dhafi Al Marri, who guided Sandro Girl in another error-free ride, finished third in 53.06 secs.
Meanwhile, Haidan clinched his third win in the season to extend his lead in the Medium Tour.
Haidan and his 13-year-old gelding Viahipi D’Auzay completed the phases in 37.92 secs and 27.22 secs respectively, making no errors as they topped a 33-entry field to win the event.
Little Lord Pezi 2, ridden by Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi, came second while Faleh Suwead Al Ajami completed the podium following his ride with Larko Denfer.
The winners of the team event, ExxonMobil included Haidan (Viahipi D’Auzay), Al Qadi (Morocco) and AL Ajami (Steyburn). Team Al Fardan came second while Al Kass finished third.
The second and final day of the seventh round today will see the Open and Big Tour Classes taking place, along with Future Riders classes.
The popular Tour includes 14 rounds that will take place at both Qatar Equestrian Federation and the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab, and will continue until April.
