Doha: Oleg Engachev overcame Wednesday’s disappointment of finishing second in the 10M Air Pistol to win the 25m Standard Pistol at the Emir Shooting and Archery Cup.
Yesterday at the Losail Shooting Range, the Korean Asian Games gold medal winner, piped Ali Morshed Hassan to the second place to win his pet event while Maltsev Konstantin finished third in a field of 13 shooters.
For Engachev, 25m Standard Pistol win turned out to be his third gold medal in the championship and a repeat of last year’s performance, wherein he had won a similar number of medals.
On Wednesday, Konstantin topped in the 10M Air Pistol while Engachev had to settle for the silver medal and Zaid Ahmad Al Shammari clinched the bronze medal. Today the finals of the 50m Rifle Prone will take place, while tomorrow the finals of the 50m Rifle 3 positions will be held.
The Trap, Double Trap and Skeets event began yesterday with pre-event training. Action continues with women Trap final today while the men’s will square off in the final tomorrow.
The shooting events of the championship organised by Qatar Shooting and Archery Association will finish on March 21. The archery events will be held for two days and will take place on March 27 and 28.
