DOHA: Widam Food Company, a Qatari-listed entity dealing in food processing and livestock trading and known for meat wholesale and retail trade, has opened a sales outlet in the Muaither suburb. The outlet on Umm Dome Street in Muaither is Widam’s 18th sales point opened as part of the company’s expansion plans for the year.
Formerly known as Qatar Meat and Livestock Company, or ‘Mawashi’, Widam said in a report yesterday that it plans to open more sales outlets this year. The company was established in 2004 to meet the increasing demand for meat, meat products and livestock, and is a commercial entity to reckon with.
“We are not the only company in our line of business in the country but we are trying to emerge as a better choice for customers,” the company said in its report. It has recently carried out extensive renovation of its automatic abattoirs and has to its credit various international awards and quality certifications.
For instance, it has ISO 22000-2005 and ISO 9001-2008 certifications and Australian MLA recognition for quality. MLA is ‘Meat and Livestock Australia’, a producer-owned non-profit entity dedicated to research and development in the red meat sector.
Widam said it has a laboratory to check bacteria in meat, applies high level of sterilisation system and maintains high level of cleanliness so its meat and meat products are of high quality and very safe to consume.
Its workers, including those engaged in its abattoirs, must wear white uniform on duty and use a head cap to maintain hygiene. They must also get health certification from authorities regularly, must not smoke in abattoirs and must not sleep there. “Our workers maintain a high level of personal hygiene and their nails are also checked from time to time to ensure they haven’t grown to make sure they maintain high level of personal hygiene,” said the report.
The company also has a home delivery service and to avail it, one must either visit its website or call 8000056. Widam supplies all kinds of meat and its derivatives, including Australian mutton, fresh, frozen and chilled, Syrian and Sudanese mutton (fresh), Indian and Pakistani goat meat and cow’s meat, among others.
