DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has tied up with Qatar University (QU) to launch a campaign to promote healthy living habits among students.
It is part of the SCH’s ‘Our Future Lies in our Health’ campaign.
It will run until the second quarter of the year, focusing on three main themes: The importance of healthy eating; physical activity; and quitting smoking.
The SCH has set up a booth on the campus in which its health experts shed light on general health issues.
SCH specialists also hold free medical tests for students for BMI (body mass index), blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
Results are offered on the spot with experts advising students of next steps to improve or maintain their health.
The SCH will host a ‘boot camp’ to generate awareness about personal health and the importance of physical activity. It will be held in cooperation of QU and physical fitness specialists through an interactive and engaging platform. In addition, a session is conducted by a professional trainer to teach students the importance and benefits of a proper workout, warming up and cooling down to avoid injury, techniques and tips and much more.
This initiative involves a motivational speaker telling students about benefits of the programme in helping build a healthier, stronger and better future for the people of Qatar, a vision shared by QU and the SCH.
Students are also taking part in a photography contest on social media with the hashtag #SCHUNIVERSITYDRIVE featuring photos of the best daily habits, to be showcased on Instagram.
The pictures with the highest number of votes will receive prizes and recognition from the SCH.
The campaign is part of the SCH’s vision to build a healthy future for Qatar communities within its National Health Strategy 2011-2016.
