DOHA: The Aparajita and Troupe from India enthraled the audience with a collection of traditional Indian Bharatanatyam dances at the Cultural Diversity Festival at Katara Esplanade last night.
Dressed in colourful traditional Indian attire, the 11-member troupe offered synchronised poses and dances with traditional music acting as the sound track for their routines.
The performers also provided music with the ankle instruments they wore.
A member of India World Cultural Forum, the troupe has performed in countries, including Indonesia, Oman, Spain, Switzerland and on numerous occasions across India.
Performing for the first time in Qatar, the troupe provided a fitting introduction to the country. The five-month long festival is organised by Katara and the Unesco office in Doha.
“Katara’s aim as a Cultural Village is to stage the kind of performances the dance troupe brought to the festival tonight,” said Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti. “There will be another 18 performances over the next five months -- each offering a similar level of engaging culture and fun for people from all walks of life.”
The Nairobi National Dance Ensemble will perform on February 1 and 2. The Peninsula
