DOHA: A series of races this week at Losail International Circuit will mark the end of the racing season in Qatar.
The first event on the charts is the Qatar International Road Racing Championship (QIRRC).
With the championship title already won by Australia’s Alex Cudlin, this week’s seventh round of QIRRC will decide the runners-up. Germany’s Nina Prinz and Qatari trio Saeed Al Sulaiti, Mashel Al Naimi and Nasser Al Malki will be aiming to finish the season in second spot.
Prinz, the only female rider in the list, has a tally of 143 points where’s Qatar’s Al Malki has accumulated 130 points in the first six rounds.
In the sixth round, Prinz, the former QMMF team rider changed her bike from Suzuki to Kawasaki in an effort to get better results.
Al Sulaiti and Al Malki, the BMW and Moto2 riders in the Spanish Championship, are also ready to fight for the podium and get as many points as possible.
Al Malki won the last race two weeks ago with a great performance and hopes to repeat the excellent result.
In the last round of the championship, the second race of the weekend had to be cancelled due to the weather conditions and it will take place today at 8pm.
Also this week, the fifth and last round of Losail Asian Road Racing Series (LARRS) will also be decided tomorrow.
The leader of the championship is Indian rider Rajini Krishnan (113 points) and compatriot Deepak Ravikumar (107 points).
Female rider Nikolett Kovacs from Hungary is third with 88 points.
The last round of the Qatar National Road Racing Championship (QNRRC) will also be held this week.
In the Open class, Qatari driver Abdulaziz Abdulla needs only 3 points to win the championship.
The Porsche driver is leading the standings with 46 points.
Australian driver Talal Wehbe is second with 39 points. The third classified driver is Pavel Nedobity with 24 points.
In the Production class, the leader of this category is Nasser Sheghail Al Abdulla with 28 points while Sail Al Naimi is second with 23 points.
The events are staged by Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF).
Today’s first free practice in QIRRCH and LARRS classes will commence at 7:00pm, QMMF said yesterday. THE PENINSULA
