Doha: Salmeen Sultan Al Suwaidi and Mohammed Khalifa Albaker yesterday clinched top honours after winning their respective events in the 9th Round of the hugely popular Longines Hathab Qatar Equestrian Tour.
At the Longines Outdoor Arena at Al Shaqab, Al Suwaidi and his 13-year-old mare Fiori LS completed a fast routine in 47.66 secs as they topped a 42-strong field to win the day’s biggest individual prize, QR7,500.
Ghana, with Faleh Suwead Al Ajami in the saddle, completed the same task in 50.46 secs to book the second place. Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi and his 12-year-old gelding Aslan 69 completed the podium following another impressive routine which lasted for 52.80 secs as the popular rider reduced the gap between him and the Medium Tour points leader Mohammed Saeed Haidan.
Haidan, a three-time winner in the Medium Tour class this season, yesterday finished 16th astride Miss Chili.
Meanwhile, in the Medium Tour team event, Al Salam Store came on top with 140 Points after recording a time of 117.52 secs.
Al Salam Store team comprised of Mubarak Yousuf Al Rumaihi (Carport) and Abdullah Ali Al Ajeil (La Corona 10).
Team Alfardan (110 points, 99.87 secs) finished second while Al Majd (108 points, 107.69 secs) came third.
Earlier, in the Small Tour class, Albaker topped the podium with two flawless routine, followed by an impressive jump-off with his reliable eight-year-old gelding Jumbo.
The duo completed the round in 67.24 secs, followed by the jump-off which they completed in 28.93 secs. The rider bagged QR5,000 for the victory.
Sandro Girl, with Mohammed Dhafi Al Marri in the saddle, recorded times of 66.58 secs and 29.21 secs (jump-off) to win the second place in the QR20,000 event.
Sultan Salem Al Naemi and Higgs also clocked impressive times of 67.13 secs and 30.19 secs (jump-off) as all three podium winners completed their respective tasks without making any faults.
Yesterday’s podium also made changes to the points leader in Small Tour, with Al Marri now leading the standings with three points above Al Naemi.
Both of them were on level in terms of points before the ninth round (153).
Today, at the same venue, Open Class competition will kick off the proceedings at 2:00pm, followed by the Future Riders Class for Under-14 and beginners and the feature of the day – Big Tour competition at 6:00pm.
