Doha: Walk down the West Bay North Beach and you will come across a new installation lighting up the coastline.
The artwork 'Zephyr', celebrating the region's natural environment, is by Kuwaiti visual artist Monira al Qadiri.
The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads & Public Places in Qatar, in cooperation with Qatar Museums, unveiled the artwork on the West Bay North beach.
"Such a beautiful installation on West Bay North Beach, Kuwaiti artist Monira Al Qadiri’s Zephyr, lighting our coastline and celebrating our region's natural environment. Congratulations to Ashghal on developing another public beach for all to enjoy," stated H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalid Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums.
The installation is a large-scale recreation of a microscopic organism seen in fossilised marine algae found in the Arabian Peninsula. The sculptures lit from the inside to reflect their vibrant nature and shed light on the marine environment in Qatar and to educate about other sources of oxygen and the importance of preserving marine life, added Ashghal.
