Doha: Doha will host an international conference on Orientalism from April 26 to 27, Qatar Foundation’s QatarDebate Centre announced yesterday.
At least 300 researchers from 50 countries will be engaging in extensive discussions on multiple manifestations of new orientalism with the aim of envisioning a balanced civilisational communication.
This first edition of the conference will be organised by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and QatarDebate Centre — in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences and in collaboration with Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, along with several international institutions, including Leiden University, the Netherlands, the Center for Advanced Studies in Sarajevo, and the Dagestan State University.
The agenda includes the reality and development of Orientalist studies and their historical and contemporary positions on contemporary issues and the East-West interaction throughout history. The event will be a platform for researchers to exchange experiences with leading scholars in the fields of Orientalism, Arab and Islamic studies.
