Doha: The Shura Council participated in a virtual international symposium on “Digital challenges to peace, inclusion and human rights: The role of social media platforms in spreading hate speech and ways to counter it”.
The webinar was organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Panel of Parliamentarians on Freedom of Religion or Belief. H E Essa bin Ahmad Al Nassr, a member of the Shura Council, represented the Council at the webinar, which brought together a number of international experts and parliamentarians from various countries.
The symposium discussed ways to counter hate speech based on religion or belief, and also shared good practices that enhance the role of parliaments in confronting this phenomenon and provide parliamentarians with the knowledge and tools necessary to take effective action in this context.
