Qatar sees over 100% jump in air passenger for 2022

Doha: Qatar recorded over 35 million air passengers in the year 2022, indicating an increase of 101.9% compared with the 2021, according to the Air Transport Statistics for the year released by Qatar's Civil Aviation Authority on Tuesday.

While the year 2021 saw 17,703,274 passengers at the Hamad International Airport, the year 2022, recorded 35,734,243 passengers. 

According to the release, the aircraft movement in the year 2022 witnessed a 28.2% rise, amounting to 217,875 flights compared with a total of 169,909 recorded in 2021.

Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, held from November 20 to December 18, 2022, resulted in a significantly high operational intensity at the airport, in terms of aircraft and passengers both, the Civil Aviation Authority noted.

Meanwhile air freight and mail showed a decline of 11.2%, which stood at 2,321,921 tons compared to 2,620,095 tons recorded in 2021.
