Showjumping tests the accuracy and athletic ability of both horse and the rider, and yesterday Quel Homme and Nasser Al Ghazali came out of it with flying colours to win the Big Tour at Al Shaqab Showjumping Competition.
Quel Homme was in top form while Nasser looked confident as they clinched the feature event, which brought the curtains down on the two-day event at Al Shaqab Indoor Arena.
Quel Homme’s performance was perfect yesterday in the QR 100,000 competition, with the victory coming with times of 40.28 and 46.72 as the team walked off with a winner’s prize of QR 25,000.
Colibri 19, guided by Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi, was also impressive clinching the second position to earn QR 20,000.
Faleh Suwead Al Ajami astride Carport finished third in the Big Tour, claiming QR 15,000.
In Open Class yesterday, Arselina, ridden by Mohammed Khalifa Albaker, reigned supreme after a flawless performance clocking 43.15 and 31.92 in the two phases. Arselina’s victory lent the team a prize money of QR 11,250.00.
Numero UNI - T with Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi on the saddle got second position with times of 41.41 and 32.64 to confirm a prize of QR 9,000. Best of Des Forets, guided by Saeed Nasser Al Qadi, took the third position to win QR 6,750.
On the opening day of Al Shaqab Showjumping Composition, Fiji and Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi won the Medium Tour while Mohammed Al Ghazali’s Alegro 84 topped the Small Tour, which saw 59 entries.
Al Shaqab’s vision to organise the event is to create a self-sustaining equestrian environment that supports riders, individual horse owners, and the local horse community, and, eventually, making Qatar a global equestrian hub.
The second and final leg of Al Shaqab Showjumping Competition will be held on March 20 and 21.
